Have Failing Dental Implants?

Failing dental implants are dental implants that are not integrating properly with your jawbone or are experiencing complications that threaten their long-term success. While dental implants have a high success rate of over 95%, certain factors can cause them to fail either during the initial healing period or years after placement. Early implant failure typically occurs within the first few months when the implant doesn’t properly fuse with your bone tissue, a process called osseointegration. Late implant failure can happen months or years later due to infection, excessive force, or poor oral hygiene.


When your dental implants begin to fail, you may experience symptoms such as persistent pain, swelling around the implant site, loosening of the implant, or infection in the surrounding gum tissue. Peri-implantitis, a condition similar to gum disease, is one of the most common causes of implant failure and occurs when bacteria accumulate around the implant, leading to inflammation and bone loss. Other factors that can contribute to implant failure include inadequate bone density, poor surgical technique, excessive bite forces, smoking, certain medical conditions, or failure to maintain proper oral hygiene.
